Treatments

IN WOMEN AND ELDERLY PEOPLE

All schools of medicine give special consideration to the care of women ,children ,the elderly and immunocompromised individuals. Although the medicament and diagnostic procedures for different diseases are the same but considering the specificity ,dosage and procedural requirement the diagnosis and treatment differ significantly in different categories of clients.

Many disease conditions are age and sex specific so special care and attention should be paid to them. In the context of panchakarma therapy while considering the indication and contraindication of different therapeutic procedures special attention is paid to bala[child] , vriddha[old age] , durbala[weak] and garbhini[ pregnant women]. If at all the therapy is to be given, it should be given with necessary precaution and appropriate modification.

PANCHAKARMA IN WOMEN

In the state of normalcy there may not be much difference in the panchakarma treatment of women patient than that of a man. In general women being soft and tender in constitution so the panchakarma should be planned accordindgly[like frequency, intensity, duration etc.]

A woman during pregnancy is essentially a high risk individual both from her own health point of view and from the point of the growth and health of the baby which she is carrying. Any drastic and vigorous therapy is contraindicated as it may induce abortion and miscarriage.Procedures like abhyanga, shirodhara, vasti in soften form could be prescribed but strictly under physician observation and keeping the stage of pregnancy and health of the woman in mind.[Basti is included in garbhini paricharya i.e. A.N.C.in ayurvedic texts].

Panchakarma therapy followed by fertility promoting medicines like rasayana[rejuvenation], vajikarana [aphrodiciac]and prajashtapana[for progeny] drugs are advisable.
